Canada women's soccer team to face Denmark in two-game home series
The Canadian women’s national soccer team is preparing for a two-game series against Denmark, scheduled for October 9 in Montreal and October 12 in Toronto. Head coach Casey Stoney emphasized that these matches are not mere exhibitions, but critical performance tests as the team builds toward the 2026 Concacaf W Championship and subsequent qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Stoney noted that the squad has transitioned from a “fragile” state following the 2024 Paris Olympics to a “very together group” with clear standards and a people-first culture. The roster features several in-form players, including Janine Sonis and Cloé Lacasse, though Vanessa Gilles has been forced to withdraw due to injury.
This series marks a significant homecoming for the team, as they have played many recent matches abroad. Facing a highly competitive Danish side that has already qualified for the World Cup provides a vital benchmark for Canada’s progress under Stoney’s leadership.
