Canada women's volleyball team advances toward VNL finals after wins in Hong Kong

Canada’s women’s volleyball team captured two victories in Week 3 of the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) in Hong Kong. Led by setter Brie Fransen, the squad edged host China 3‑2 (25‑19, 17‑25, 22‑25, 25‑23, 11‑15) and then defeated Belgium 3‑1 (25‑21, 18‑25, 25‑23, 25‑16). Top scorers included Kiera Van Ryk (27 points), Alexa Gray (25) and Abagayle Guezen (22). Coach Giovanni Guidetti praised the team’s defensive adjustments and the setters’ distribution.

The wins marked Canada’s seventh triumph in ten matches, keeping them sixth in the VNL standings and in contention for a berth in the finals slated for Macao, China later this month. Upcoming matches see Canada face Italy on July 11 and the Dominican Republic on July 12 as they seek to secure a spot among the top seven preliminary teams and the host nation.
