Canada's defence minister warns of foreign targeting of AI and tech
Defence Minister David McGuinty said Canada must remain vigilant against foreign actors seeking to steal the country's technology, highlighting artificial intelligence and intellectual property as key targets. He noted past losses such as the Nortel intellectual‑property breach, which has been linked to Chinese espionage.
McGuinty announced more than $20 million in funding for Canada’s third defence‑innovation secure hub, dedicated to quantum technologies, and said security and intelligence agencies are maintaining a close watch on these activities.
