Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney admits Liberal climate plan failed

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that the flagship Liberal climate strategy introduced under former Premier Justin Trudeau has not met its objectives. He said Canada’s greenhouse‑gas emissions are expected to rise in the coming years and described the plan as financially unsustainable and socially divisive. Carney noted that the government has spent more than $150 billion on the initiative, including domestic measures that have hindered natural‑resource projects and billions pledged to international climate finance.

The admission was made on the eve of the Canada Day holiday and received limited coverage in many mainstream outlets. Opposition members cited the statement as validation of long‑standing Conservative warnings that the climate agenda would impose high costs while lacking broad public support.
