Canada's Rising Antisemitism Sparks Record Jewish Emigration

Violent antisemitic incidents in Canada have sharply increased, with B’nai Brith documenting 27 attacks in the first half of 2025—more than double the total for 2024. Hate crimes targeting Jews accounted for 71% of all religious hate crimes that year, and the country recorded its highest monthly emigration rate in history, with more than 10,000 Canadians leaving each month.

The surge has driven a 51% rise in aliyah (Jewish immigration to Israel) between 2023 and 2025, reaching a record level. Jewish community leaders warn that the climate of hostility is prompting many prominent professionals, entrepreneurs, and educators to relocate abroad. Prime Minister Mark Carney has pledged action to combat antisemitism, but critics say the response is insufficient as the threat of mass‑casualty events looms.

Jewish groups have also appealed to the U.S. State Department for refugee protection, though no decision has been made. The situation reflects a broader trend of increasing anti‑Jewish hostility across several Western nations.
