Statistics Canada reported that Canadian‑resident return trips from the United States reached 1.7 million in June 2026, marking a 3.2 % year‑over‑year increase. Trips by car grew 5.2 % while trips by air fell 3.8 %. The agency noted, “When comparing the number of trips in June 2026 with June 2024, a decline of 28.7 % was observed, driven by fewer trips by automobile (‑29.6 %) and by air (‑25.0 %).”

The data also highlighted a surge in inbound tourism to Canada linked to the FIFA World Cup matches held in Vancouver and Toronto. Air arrivals from the 15 countries with teams playing in Canada rose 32.5 % during the month, reflecting the tournament’s impact on travel patterns.
