Canadian baseball: 2026 MLB draft picks and Morneau Cup

The 2026 Major League Baseball Draft took place in Philadelphia, spanning two days and 20 rounds. Four Canadians were selected: outfielder Carter Beck (Atlanta Braves), shortstop Taj Marchand (Tampa Bay Rays), shortstop Elliot Lascelles (San Diego Padres) and left‑handed pitcher Sean Duncan (New York Yankees). The players come from diverse backgrounds, including dual‑citizenship and strong performances in junior and collegiate leagues.

Former MLB first baseman Justin Morneau has lent his name to the national amateur championship trophy, now called the Morneau Cup. The six‑day tournament in Okotoks, Alberta, features 29 teams from across Canada—including clubs from British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces. Teams may draft up to three additional players for the event, which also includes a home‑run derby and extensive scouting by U.S. and Canadian colleges and professional organizations. Morneau will present the trophy to the winning club.
