Farmers protest Alto train project on Parliament Hill

Farmers from Quebec and eastern Ontario gathered on Parliament Hill to demonstrate against the federally‑backed Alto high‑speed train project. The protest, organized by the Ontario Farm Association and the Union des producteurs agricoles, called for a pause to the project, warning that the proposed 10‑km corridor would cut through dozens of farms, close roads and threaten rural livelihoods. Participants argued the project lacks a sound business case, estimating that a ridership of 55,000 daily passengers for 50 years would be required to recoup costs.
