Canadian businesses express cautious optimism amid trade uncertainty

Recent surveys indicate a trend of cautious optimism among Canadian businesses despite ongoing economic and trade uncertainties. A KPMG poll of 359 business leaders found that 51% believe their firms will benefit from federal economic measures over the next three years. However, some entrepreneurs expressed concern regarding trade volatility and the impact of U.S. administration policies, noting that business planning has become increasingly reactive due to potential tariff changes.

Complementing this, an Employment Hero survey of 600 senior leaders reported that 58% of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are optimistic about their outlook for the next six months. While businesses are maintaining a disciplined approach to growth, 66% expect to hire, with many becoming more selective. Additionally, 62% of SMEs are increasing investments in artificial intelligence to drive productivity and operational efficiency.
