Canadian cities to name streets after Srebrenica genocide victims

Mayors of at least five major Canadian cities have accepted an initiative to begin the process of naming streets ‘Victims of the Srebrenica Genocide’, according to the Institute for Genocide Research Canada (IGK).

The initiative is based on rulings from the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, which serve as legal guarantees regarding the truth of the Srebrenica genocide. The IGK stated that the street-naming process serves as a response to genocide denial and historical revisionism, aiming to institutionalize a culture of remembrance and uphold the legal legacy of the Hague tribunal.
