Canadian Coast Guard commissions CCGS Mira Bay rescue vessel
The Canadian Coast Guard has officially commissioned the CCGS Mira Bay, a new Bay Class search and rescue (SAR) lifeboat. The vessel was built by Hike Metal Products Ltd. in Wheatley, Ontario, and represents the final delivery of a 20-vessel order under the National Shipbuilding Strategy.
Designed by naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd., the 19-metre aluminium-hulled boat is built to handle extreme weather, including 12-metre seas and Beaufort Force 12 conditions. The vessel features self-righting capabilities, a maximum speed of 25 knots, and advanced noise and vibration reduction technology to improve crew conditions. The addition of the CCGS Mira Bay is intended to strengthen maritime safety and response capabilities for coastal communities, particularly in the waters off Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.
