Canadian Coast Guard strengthens North Atlantic ties at Reykjavík Summit
The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) participated in the North Atlantic Coast Guard Forum Summit in Reykjavík, Iceland, to enhance maritime security and cooperation across the Arctic and North Atlantic regions. During the summit, CCG Commissioner Kevin Brosseau signed a Cooperation Plan with the Icelandic Coast Guard.
The agreement focuses on advancing joint exercises, training, and information sharing to improve maritime domain awareness. It also includes provisions for cooperation on climate resilience, decarbonization, and environmental protection to support safer Arctic operations.
Commissioner Brosseau also engaged with representatives from the Norwegian Coast Guard, Norwegian Coastal Administration, Swedish Coast Guard, Finnish Border Guard, and His Majesty’s Coastguard. These discussions aimed to increase operational readiness and stewardship of North Atlantic waters as maritime activity in the region continues to rise.
