Canadian film festivals highlight international and local talent

The 2026 Canadian film festival season features significant programming in Windsor and Toronto. The Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF) has announced ten new titles for its upcoming fall edition, including films featuring Juliette Binoche, Ethan Hawke, and Russell Crowe. The lineup includes international works such as Andrey Zvyagintsev’s ‘Minotaur’ and the French comedy ‘Comédie-Française’, alongside local productions like Scott Anthony Cavalheiro’s ‘Plan C’.

Simultaneously, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has commenced, highlighting talent from Manitoba. Winnipeg filmmaker Ian Bawa is set to make his feature film debut with ‘Strong Son’, a project evolved from his previous short film work. The festival runs through September 20, 2026.
