Canadian Government Gives Pay Raises to Over 330,000 Federal Employees
The Canadian federal government increased salaries for more than 330,000 public‑service workers in 2025. According to data obtained by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF), 78 % of the 432,566 employees received a raise, including 320,347 non‑executive staff and 15,831 executives. Bonuses or other performance incentives were awarded to 34 % of non‑executives and 88 % of executives.
CTF federal director Franco Terrazzano criticised the pay hikes, noting that almost a third of departments failed to meet their performance targets in 2025 and about 10 % lacked data on goal achievement. He said taxpayers have “every reason to question why the vast majority of bureaucrats are taking bigger paycheques when departments can barely pass their own test.”
