Canadian Labour Congress endorses refusal to handle arms shipments to Israel

The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), the largest labour organization in Canada representing approximately 3 million workers, has voted to endorse Resolution ‘Gen-061’. This resolution calls on workers to refuse to handle weapons and military equipment destined for Israel, designating such trade and services as “hot cargo.”

The CLC expressed solidarity with Palestinian workers and called on the Canadian government to end all direct and indirect arms exports to Israel. The decision follows reports from advocacy groups, including the Palestinian Youth Movement and Arms Embargo Now, alleging that Canadian military exports to Israel have continued through various channels, including via the United States.

According to documentation titled “Exposing Canadian Military Exports to Israel,” more than 390 shipments from 21 Canadian producers were identified, including ammunition components and F-35 jet parts. The CLC has also previously voted to cut ties with the Histadrut.
