Canadian martial artists achieve international success and prepare for world championships

Canadian martial arts athletes have achieved notable success and upcoming opportunities on the international stage. At the Asia-Pacific/Oceania Championship Cup in Sanya, China, Team Canada’s kickboxing delegation secured 13 medals, including eight gold, three silver, and two bronze. Arya Sabeti was a standout performer, winning four gold medals in Kick Light, Full Contact Kickboxing, Boxing, and Muay Thai, notably defeating competitors from Russia and China.

In a separate development, a large delegation from West Kelowna’s Taneda Karate Dojo is traveling to the Gold Coast, Australia, for the 15th Chito-Ryu Karate Soke Cup. The group includes 34 athletes from the Okanagan region, representing the largest Canadian delegation at the World Championships. The team will compete in various disciplines, including kata, kobudo, and bogu kumite.
