Canadian PM Mark Carney rejects Trump annexation claims

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has asserted that Canada will never become the ‘51st state’ of the United States. Speaking during a visit to Turkey, Carney responded to recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the potential annexation of Canada.

Carney stated that the U.S. President is aware of Canada’s position and sovereignty. He emphasized that a stronger Canada serves as a better partner for the United States, provided the U.S. chooses to act as a partner. The Prime Minister’s remarks come amid ongoing trade tensions and controversial statements from Trump, including suggestions that Canada could eventually be absorbed into the U.S.

Diplomatic tensions have escalated following Trump’s previous references to Canada as the ‘51st state’ and proposals regarding the naming of Lake Ontario. Additionally, tens of thousands of Canadians have signed a petition calling for the removal of U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra, accusing him of promoting secessionist ideas and interfering in Canadian domestic affairs.
