Canadian police increase enforcement against stunt and distracted driving

Law enforcement agencies in Canada are increasing efforts to combat dangerous driving behaviors. In Ontario, the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recently charged three individuals with stunt driving on Highway 401. The incidents involved vehicles traveling at speeds of 178 km/h, 165 km/h, and 158 km/h. In these cases, drivers faced 30-day license suspensions and 14-day vehicle impoundments.

In British Columbia, the RCMP and BC Highway Patrol are launching enforcement campaigns targeting distracted driving and seatbelt violations. Authorities noted that distracted driving remains one of the top three causes of death on B.C. roads. Penalties include fines for using electronic devices, failing to wear seatbelts, or using improper child restraint systems.
