Canadian provinces advance skilled worker immigration pathways

Canadian provinces are utilizing distinct pathways to attract skilled workers through provincial nomination programs.

In Ontario, the redesigned Ontario Workforce Priority stream requires significant employer involvement. To facilitate a worker's path to permanent residence, employers must register through the OINP Employer Portal, provide job offer details, and obtain specific approval for the position. Eligible businesses must have operated for at least three years, meet minimum revenue and staffing requirements, and maintain compliance with employment and health and safety legislation.

In Quebec, the Ministry of Immigration, Francisation and Integration (MIFI) recently issued 790 invitations under the Skilled Worker Selection Program (PSTQ). The selection spanned four streams, with the largest portion allocated to workers with intermediate and manual skills. Successful candidates can apply for a Québec Selection Certificate (CSQ), a prerequisite for seeking permanent residence from the federal government.
