Canadian Tire leverages AI to drive growth amid soft consumer sentiment
Canadian Tire Inc. reported a 0.7 per cent increase in overall sales for the three-month period ending July 4, 2026. Despite the slight growth, CEO Greg Hicks noted that consumer sentiment remains soft due to economic pressures, including the threat of trade wars, tariffs, and rising costs for food and gas.
To combat these headwinds, the retailer is increasingly utilizing artificial intelligence and data analytics. The company has partnered with Microsoft to develop Mosaic, a customer intelligence platform designed to predict consumer needs using data from hundreds of millions of transactions and the Triangle loyalty program. Additionally, the company used its DaiVID AI tool to implement price reductions on more than 5,000 products, specifically targeting essentials like cleaning and storage items.
While overall sales were relatively flat, specific banners showed growth, with comparable sales increasing 8 per cent at Sport Chek and 4.2 per cent at Mark’s.
