Karaköy tourist claims robbery and knife attack in taxi
A Canadian tourist, identified as Alex Soliman, claims he was robbed and stabbed during a taxi ride in the Karaköy neighborhood of Istanbul. According to Soliman, two women identifying themselves as ‘Eleanor’ and ‘Aisha’ locked the vehicle doors and stole 6,500 Turkish Liras. He further alleged that the taxi driver was complicit in the crime, as the meter was not activated and a forced transaction of 3,375 Liras was made via the vehicle's POS device.
When Soliman attempted to prevent the suspects from fleeing, one of the women allegedly attacked him with a knife, causing injuries to his arms. Soliman was treated at Taksim Training and Research Hospital, where medical reports confirmed superficial scratches on his forearm and wrist but noted no life-threatening injuries.
Police have detained the taxi driver in connection with the incident. While some reports suggest the encounter may have originated from a dispute over a requested service, Soliman has filed a formal complaint and is contesting the unauthorized bank transactions.
