The delegation, which included Canada’s Ambassador to the United States Mark Wiseman, met with local legislators, regulators, and industry groups such as the Iowa Pork Producers Association to emphasize the mutual benefits of the existing trade relationship.
Local agricultural leaders have expressed concern over the potential economic impact of the proposed tariffs. Aaron Lehman, president of the Iowa Farmers Union, noted that the trade uncertainty has caused significant struggle for farmers and could influence upcoming midterm elections. Canada remains Iowa’s largest export market, representing 30 per cent of the state's total goods exports as of 2025.
