CANAL+ and La Liga partner to combat sports piracy

CANAL+ and La Liga have entered into a strategic anti-piracy agreement to combat the illegal distribution of sports content. The partnership covers nearly 50 countries across Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Haiti.

The collaboration aims to protect the sports ecosystem by combining the expertise, technology, and enforcement capabilities of the global broadcaster and the Spanish football league. The two organizations will share intelligence and coordinate enforcement strategies to disrupt illegal distribution networks.

La Liga President Javier Tebas noted that piracy is a major challenge to the future of sport, while CANAL+ CEO Maxime Saada emphasized that the scale of the partnership reflects the strategic importance of tackling content piracy. Beyond copyright issues, the organizations warned that illegal streaming services pose security risks to users, including potential exposure to malware, fraud, and data theft.
