Canal Brasil honors José Wilker with special film retrospective

Canal Brasil is hosting a special film retrospective to honor the late actor José Wilker during the month of his 82nd birthday. The program, running from August 15 to 20, features several emblematic works from his career.

Among the featured films are the classics ‘Dona Flor e Seus Dois Maridos’, directed by Bruno Barreto and based on the novel by Jorge Amado, and ‘Bye Bye Brasil’ by Cacá Diegues. The retrospective also includes ‘O Homem da Capa Preta’ and ‘Casa da Mãe Joana’.

A major highlight of the event is the premiere of a newly digitized version of ‘Guerra de Canudos’, directed by Sérgio Rezende, in which Wilker portrayed the religious leader Antônio Conselheiro. The initiative aims to support the preservation and appreciation of Brazilian cinema through high-quality digital exhibitions.
