Canal+ launches Sport+, a free digital sports platform
Canal+ has launched Sport+, a new free digital platform integrated into its existing application. Designed to attract non-subscribers and serve as a gateway to its paid services, the platform is ad-supported and requires users to create a free account to access certain features.
The service covers content from nine major competitions, including the Champions League, Europa League, Premier League, Formula 1, MotoGP, and various rugby leagues (Top 14 and Pro D2). Key features include short-form vertical videos, highlights, and a ‘Multi-Live’ mode. This mode allows users to follow multiple matches simultaneously via a wall of vignettes, though full-screen viewing of specific matches remains reserved for paying subscribers.
Maxime Saada, President of the Group, and Thomas Sénécal, Director of Sports, noted that the platform aims to meet market demand for accessible sports content while showcasing the group’s editorial expertise. The launch includes diverse programming such as documentaries and sports shows, with the Singapore Grand Prix serving as a primary early highlight.
