Canal+ Rolls Out Automated 4K HDR Service Plan for Subscribers

Canal+ announced a new "simplified experience" that will automatically select the best video quality for compatible equipment. Starting 20 July 2026, the service will be active across satellite, ADSL/Fibre, OTT and the Canal+ app. When a subscriber tunes to a channel, the decoder will choose the highest‑quality stream—4K HDR if the TV supports it, otherwise HD.

The rollout introduces Canal+ Foot in 4K HDR on channel positions 11, 61 or 101, and adds Dolby 5.1 sound. At the same time, several channels are being removed, including Olympia TV and MCM, with their numbers withdrawn from the lineup. HDR settings on the decoder will offer three modes (Auto, Activated, Deactivated) to let users control HDR behavior.

Technical changes also affect the HD block on channels 500+, the "Replay" function (disabled from 20 July), and the integration of regional France 3 stations into the satellite and OTT decoders. The new plan aims to streamline viewing and improve image quality for Canal+ customers.
