Cananéia diner discovers pearl inside oyster during meal
A diner in Cananéia, on the coast of São Paulo, discovered a small pearl inside an oyster during a meal at the Ponto das Ostras restaurant. Carina Lisboa, a personal trainer, reported that she initially feared she had broken a tooth after biting into something hard, only to realize it was a small, rounded structure.
The incident occurred during the 1st GastroMangue Festival, an event organized by the local government in partnership with Unesp (São Paulo State University). The festival aims to promote the culinary use of Saccostrea cucullata, an exotic oyster species that has become invasive in the region, turning an environmental challenge into a gastronomic opportunity.
Restaurant owner Paula Monteiro noted that in 18 years of operation, this is the first time a customer has found such an object. After consulting a jewelry specialist, the pearl was confirmed to be a developing pearl, and Lisboa intends to have it transformed into an earring.
