Canarian descendants from San Antonio, Texas, visit the Canary Islands

A delegation from the Association of Descendants of the Canary Islands of San Antonio, Texas, is visiting the Canary Islands to reconnect with their ancestral roots. The group, consisting of approximately 25 to 31 members, has been received by local authorities in Tenerife and Lanzarote.

The visit highlights a historical connection dating back nearly three centuries to March 1730, when families from Tenerife, Lanzarote, La Palma, and Gran Canaria migrated to New Spain at the request of King Philip V. These families eventually settled in the area that became San Antonio, Texas.

In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez received the delegation, which included Association President Julia López. During the meeting, official correspondence was exchanged between the mayors of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Antonio, Texas. The delegation's itinerary includes visiting various locations across the archipelago related to their family origins and participating in cultural and institutional agendas.
