Canary Islands allocates 2.3 million euros for urban planning subsidies

The Government of the Canary Islands has released the final resolution for municipal urban planning subsidies, allocating 2.3 million euros to 17 town councils. The funds are intended to help municipalities draft, update, or modify their urban planning, environmental documents, and historical protection plans.

While the funding supports 17 municipalities—16 of which are classified as demographic challenge areas with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants—the budget has been exhausted. As a result, 14 municipalities (31 in total) were unable to receive aid due to insufficient funds. Unsuccessful requests totaled approximately 1.92 million euros, an amount nearly equivalent to 84% of the total distributed budget.

Tenerife saw the highest volume of both requested and unfulfilled funds. Notable cases include Santa Úrsula, which requested 404,002 euros, and Icod de los Vinos, which missed out on 164,718 euros. Other municipalities, such as La Laguna, also saw several requests denied due to the budget limit.
