Canary Islands allocates 5 million euros to support young farmers

The Government of the Canary Islands has approved 5.05 million euros in subsidies to support 78 young farmers through the Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy (PEPAC). The funding, which is co-financed by the European Union via the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (FEADER), the Canary Islands Autonomous Community, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, will be distributed in two annual installments for the 2026 and 2027 fiscal years.

Agriculture Minister Narvay Quintero stated that the measure is a fundamental tool to encourage generational renewal and help young professionals launch their own business projects in the agricultural sector. The support includes technical advice and guidance during the implementation and consolidation phases of these initiatives. Between 2023 and 2026, the regional government has managed 19.9 million euros in subsidies for the creation of agricultural companies, covering 275 files for young people in the region.
