Canary Islands attracts interest from Japanese video game firms
The Canary Islands government, through its economic promotion agency Proexca, has concluded a business mission in Japan that attracted interest from approximately ten Japanese video game companies. These firms are exploring opportunities for investment and collaboration within the archipelago's digital ecosystem.
Japanese companies are specifically interested in the region's European location, available talent, and unique fiscal regime, such as the Canary Islands Special Zone, which offers reduced tax rates. The strategic goal is to foster both direct investment and co-production models, allowing Japanese firms to outsource development work to local Canarian studios.
To solidify these connections, Proexca is organizing an ‘inverse mission’ scheduled for October. This initiative will bring the interested Japanese companies to the islands to experience the local infrastructure, professional environment, and competitive advantages firsthand.
