Canary Islands authorizes modernization of nine power generation groups

The Canary Islands' Directorate General of Energy has authorized the modernization of nine electricity generation groups located in Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, and Lanzarote. These technical improvements aim to enhance the reliability and response capacity of the existing infrastructure to secure the electrical supply.

The project involves a total capacity of 374.52 megawatts (MW). According to officials, the initiative focuses on technological renewal and extending the lifespan of current facilities rather than increasing total generation power. This action is part of a broader plan approved by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Miteco) to renew the archipelago's electrical generation through competitive bidding processes.
