Canary Islands brace for strong winds and up to 30°C temperatures

The Spanish State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecast an intense alisio (northeast) wind across the Canary Islands on Sunday, with wind force 5‑6 at sea and gusts reaching force 7 in exposed coastal points. Strong sea conditions are expected, with wave heights up to two metres and a yellow sea warning for the western province and Gran Canaria. Temperatures will reach or approach 30 °C in low‑lying areas of southeast Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and the Güímar‑Candelaria area of Tenerife.

In Tenerife, the maximum temperature is expected to be 29 °C in Santa Cruz, with minima around 24 °C. The wind will be especially strong in the southeast, the extreme northwest and the southern metropolitan façade, where gusts could locally exceed 80 km/h. A yellow warning for bad sea has also been issued for the western province. Similar conditions are forecast for the other islands: cloudy skies and possible drizzle in the north of Gran Canaria and La Gomera, strong winds in eastern and north‑western sectors, and generally clear to partly cloudy weather elsewhere.
