Canary Islands completes solar-powered renovation of La Palma’s Los Llanos de Aridane municipal pool

The Canary Islands government invested €199,904 to modernise the municipal pool in Los Llanos de Aridane, La Palma. The upgrade adds a new heating system and photovoltaic panels for self‑consumption, aiming to make the facility more energy‑efficient and operable year‑round. Minister Mariano Hernández Zapata said the project “represents a clear commitment to improve public services from sustainability and energy efficiency, especially on an island like La Palma.” The improvement is presented as part of the region’s post‑eruption recovery and broader renewable‑energy push.

Separately, Spain’s national housing ministry is promoting a subsidy that can cover up to 40 % of the cost—capped at €3,000—for homeowners who replace old boilers with more efficient heating solutions such as aerothermal systems, heat pumps or other renewable‑energy technologies. Funded by the EU’s NextGenerationEU recovery plan and administered by the autonomous communities, the aid requires a minimum €1,000 investment and proof of energy‑efficiency gains. The programme aims to reduce household energy consumption and accelerate the country’s climate targets.
