Canary Islands dismisses euthanasia commission president
The Canary Islands Ministry of Health has dismissed Elisa Corujo from her position as president of the Commission for the Guarantee and Evaluation of the Provision of Assistance to Die. The dismissal, signed by Health Minister Esther Monzón, cited an “impossibility to exercise her functions” under regional regulations.
Dr. Corujo, a geriatrician at the Hospital Universitario José Molina Orosa, has filed an appeal against the decision, requesting her reinstatement. She has characterized the dismissal as arbitrary and legally void, arguing that the administration failed to provide specific facts or a rational motivation regarding her alleged incapacity. Corujo maintains that she suffers no physical or cognitive limitations that would prevent her from fulfilling her responsibilities.
