Canary Islands electric racing car to promote cancer research

The Canary Islands Government, the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), and the Canary Islands Automobile Federation (FCA) have unveiled a new design for the Coche Zero. This 100% electric racing vehicle will travel across the archipelago to raise awareness for World Cancer Research Day, promoting both sustainable mobility and the importance of scientific research in cancer prevention and diagnosis.

Separately, the expansion of electric vehicle infrastructure in the region faces significant hurdles. Manuel Sánchez, president of Aconauto Canarias, reports that 22.8% of charging stations in the islands—approximately 708 out of 2,300—are currently inoperable. He also noted that administrative bureaucracy can delay the activation of new charging points for up to three years, compared to an average of 60 days in countries like Germany.
