Canary Islands emergency responders handle injuries and fatality at Lanzarote and Fuerteventura beaches
A 35‑year‑old man suffered moderate injuries after falling from the promenade at Playa Blanca on Lanzarote. The incident was reported to the Canary Islands emergency coordination centre (CECOES) at 01:31, prompting an ambulance, fire crew, Guardia Civil and local police to the scene. He was treated for a head wound and lacerations and transferred by a medicalised ambulance to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa in Arrecife.
A separate incident on Fuerteventura saw a 53‑year‑old man die after being rescued from the water at Butihondo beach in the municipality of Pájara. Bystanders pulled him ashore and the island’s beach‑salvage service began CPR, followed by the Servicio de Urgencias Canario. Despite advanced resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead on the beach. Local police and the Guardia Civil secured the area and began investigations.
