Canary Islands evaluates European social service standards and announces youth awards

The Government of the Canary Islands is exploring the implementation of a European framework to enhance the quality of social services. Candelaria Delgado, the Minister of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood, and Families, participated in a conference in San Sebastián organized by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and the European Social Network (ESN). The initiative aims to adapt European standards to local and regional levels to improve person-centered care and well-being.

In a separate development, the Canary Islands government announced the winners of the Joven Canarias 2026 awards. The prizes recognize youth commitment to social transformation, inclusion, and equality. Recipients include the Unión de Estudiantes de Canarias (UDECA), the NoPor OnSex educational association, the Lanzarote Association of People with Disabilities (ADISLAN), Cristina Martel Martín, and Sabah Oualit Quensi. The awards ceremony is scheduled for September 25 in Gáldar.
