Canary Islands expands advanced telecare services sixfold

The Canary Islands has increased the number of people receiving advanced telecare services sixfold. Currently, 14,761 individuals are being assisted through this innovative home care tool, up from 2,352 at the start of the current legislative term in August 2023.

The implementation of this new system involved an investment of approximately 30 million euros. This includes 7 million euros for service provision through 2027 and 22.7 million euros for the acquisition of technological equipment, funded by the Next Generation EU Recovery and Resilience Facility.

The service utilizes specialized devices, such as bed and armchair occupancy sensors and wearable watches, to monitor life patterns and identify the real-time needs of elderly and dependent persons. This approach aims to move toward a model of preventive and personalized care.
