Canary Islands face extreme heat and dust on July 31

The Spanish weather agency AEMET forecasts a hot, dry day on Friday, July 31, across the Canary Islands, with temperatures expected to reach or exceed 34 °C in most areas and peak at 39 °C on Gran Canaria. The forecast also calls for a significant dust layer (calima) aloft, reducing visibility especially at mid‑altitudes and mountain peaks. Strong wind gusts are possible in the southeast and northwest coastal zones of the islands.

Heat warnings apply to Tenerife, where highs may approach 36 °C, and to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, where temperatures could climb above 30 °C. The combination of high heat and calima is likely to increase the feeling of oppressive conditions and may affect outdoor activities and tourism on the islands.
