Brazil agricultural exports show growth in meat and cotton amid China quota concerns
Brazil's agricultural sector is showing mixed results in 2026. Meat exports, particularly beef and poultry, have seen significant growth. Beef exports to China are approaching a critical threshold, with the country reporting that Brazil has reached 90% of its 1.1 million metric ton quota for the year. If this limit is exceeded, a 55% additional tariff will be applied. Meanwhile, the Brazilian Beef Exporters Association (ABIEC) is targeting Southeast Asia, specifically the Philippines, as a key growth gateway.
Poultry exports have rebounded strongly following previous avian influenza concerns, with chicken shipments rising nearly 30% in July. Cotton exports also showed momentum, increasing by 21.8% in July, led by demand from Bangladesh and Vietnam. In the fruit sector, Brazilian apple exports surged by over 220% in the first half of the year due to improved production volumes.
However, the sugar sector has faced a downturn, with exports and revenue declining significantly compared to 2025. Additionally, the beef industry is navigating a shift in the livestock cycle, which has led to lower cattle availability for slaughter in some regions.
