Canary Islands government cuts dependency claim processing time to 283 days
The Canary Islands regional government announced that the average time to resolve dependency assistance applications fell to 283 days in July, marking the first time the figure has dropped below the 300‑day threshold since the 2006 law came into force. The reduction represents a 64% decrease from 782 days in July 2023. Officials said new applications are now resolved in about 89 days, well under the legal maximum of 180 days.
During the same period, the number of people covered by the Individual Care Programme (PIA) rose to 86,500 from 55,189, total benefits issued increased to 98,252, and recognized dependents receiving benefits grew to 75,800. Tele‑assistance users also expanded to 14,079, up from 4,528 at the start of the year.
