Canary Islands Health Service expands summer blood donation sites in Tenerife
The Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) is urging residents to donate blood regularly during the summer to keep supplies of blood products sufficient for hospitals across the archipelago. To facilitate this, the agency will deploy mobile donation units next week in addition to existing fixed collection points.
In Tenerife, mobile drives will operate in Candelaria (Puntalarga Sports Pavilion, Mon‑Wed), San Miguel de Abona (Mon‑Thu), La Orotava, La Laguna (Finca España and Plaza de la Catedral), and Adeje (Leroy Merlin). Fixed sites remain open at the Club Mar Radazul, Hospital Universitario de Canarias, Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, and other usual locations in Santa Cruz, Granadilla de Abona, Hospiten Bellevue (Puerto de la Cruz) and Hospital San Juan de Dios.
Donors must be 18‑65 years old, weigh over 50 kg, be in good health and not be pregnant. The campaign aims to ensure a steady flow of blood components, which cannot be manufactured and have a limited shelf life, throughout the busy summer months.
