Canary Islands host first Climate Change Forum
The first Canary Islands Climate Change Forum concluded in Telde, bringing together over 200 daily participants from public administration, the business sector, and research communities. The event emphasized the necessity of transversal policies and research to combat climate change and promote decarbonization.
During the forum, the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) detailed its Net Zero Emissions Strategy. To address the archipelago's vulnerability to heatwaves and air quality issues, the SCS is implementing measures such as using green hydrogen and methanol for hospital activities, managing infectious waste locally, and utilizing technology to optimize climate control and lighting.
Financial investments for these initiatives include 6.4 million euros in collaboration with MITECO for mobility, 4.3 million euros from Next Generation funds for 14 photovoltaic projects, and 15 million euros dedicated to improving climate control system efficiency.
