Canary Islands host major film festivals and awards ceremonies
The Canary Islands are hosting significant cinematic events, including the 21st edition of Festivalito La Palma and the DOCanarias International Documentary Film Festival.
Festivalito La Palma has introduced the Cinerama Canarias Awards, a new section designed to distinguish between films produced locally in the Canary Islands and foreign productions filmed within the archipelago. This initiative aims to highlight local authorship, identity, and production teams. In its inaugural edition, Kira Miró received the award for Best Canary Female Performance for her role in ‘Solos’.
Simultaneously, the DOCanarias festival in Puerto de la Cruz is showcasing documentary works, including the absolute premiere of ‘La Berma’ by Agustín Domínguez. The festival also honored Aurelio Carnero with the ‘Cinematographic Initiative’ award. Additionally, Salvadoran-Mexican filmmaker Tatiana Huezo is participating in the festival, where she received the Personal Narrative Prize for her ethical and humanistic approach to documentary filmmaking.
