Canary Islands introduces new procurement system for dependency care
The Canary Islands Government has unveiled the Dynamic Acquisition System (SDA), a new technological and management framework designed to accelerate care for dependent individuals across the archipelago. The initiative aims to provide direct assistance to approximately 12,000 people currently on waiting lists with pending Individual Care Programs (PIA).
Presented by the Directorate General of Dependency, the SDA is an open and flexible model that allows for the continuous incorporation of accredited providers during its initial two-year term. The system seeks to simplify the awarding of essential services, including home help, personal autonomy promotion, and day center care.
Officials noted that while the current system supports 100,000 dependents, there is a critical need for more accredited providers, particularly for home-based services. Currently, only 160 of the 520 accredited entities and professionals offer home care. The government is calling on social entities and businesses to undergo accreditation to meet the demands of the region's aging population and support the goal of desinstitutionalization.
