Canary Islands launches initiative to adapt public services for the elderly
The Canary Islands Institute of Public Administration (ICAP) has launched the first conference series focused on how public administration can better serve the elderly population. The initiative aims to address the challenges posed by an aging demographic by creating more accessible, coordinated, and close-range public services.
President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, inaugurated the sessions, emphasizing that older citizens must be active protagonists in public decision-making processes that affect them. The discussions involve experts and administration professionals addressing critical issues such as the digital divide, bureaucracy, urban accessibility, and social isolation.
The program also explores residential alternatives, including collaborative housing, to ensure that public services are designed in accordance with the actual demographic reality and territorial needs of the islands.
