Canary Islands negotiate airport management and taxi fare reforms
The Canary Islands government is nearing a historic agreement with the Spanish state to allow the autonomous community to participate in the management of its airports. A bilateral airport body is expected to be established following a meeting scheduled for October 29 in Tenerife. This move aims to grant the region a role in decision-making processes regarding its airport facilities, a demand held for over 30 years.
Simultaneously, negotiations are underway regarding the new Taxi Regulation of the Canary Islands. Discussions between the Directorate General of Transport and Mobility and taxi federations have focused on revising tariff systems and service conditions. A key proposal under consideration is the implementation of a flat rate for taxi trips between Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Gran Canaria Airport in Telde.
