Canary Islands Parliament backs proposal for minor access to concerts
The Parliament of the Canary Islands has approved a non-legislative proposal aimed at clarifying and adapting the rules regarding the access and presence of minors at public shows, such as concerts and festivals.
Presented by the Socialist Group and defended by deputy Gustavo Matos, the initiative seeks to establish uniform criteria for the regional government. The goal is to prevent legal uncertainty and unjustified restrictions that currently affect families, event organizers, and public administrations. The proposal emphasizes that the protection of children and adolescents should be balanced with the promotion of their cultural and social participation.
A key point of contention involves the interpretation of existing laws, specifically Law 7/2011 and Decree 86/2013. Currently, there is confusion regarding whether the strict time limits and access restrictions applied to permanent entertainment establishments should also apply to occasional or extraordinary public spectacles, particularly those occurring late at night.
