Canary Islands PSOE demands accountability over school infrastructure issues

The Socialist Party (PSOE) in the Canary Islands is demanding political accountability from the regional Ministry of Education regarding the deteriorating state of educational facilities across the archipelago. Marcos Hernández, the PSOE Education spokesperson, called on Education Minister Hipólito Suárez to address severe deficiencies reported by the STEC-IC union, which include leaks, humidity, unusable classrooms, obsolete electrical installations, cracked walls, and potential asbestos issues.

Additionally, the union has approached the Labor Inspectorate to investigate safety conditions regarding high temperatures in schools. The PSOE argues that current protocols and announcements are insufficient to replace the need for effective investment and infrastructure repairs.

Separately, the PSOE has expressed indignation over the lack of response from both the Cabildo of La Palma and the regional government regarding the future of the Todoque and Los Campitos schools. These institutions were lost following a volcanic eruption, and families have reportedly faced over five years of uncertainty without a clear resolution from authorities.
